I pity the fool who thinks the mohawked and chain-wearing Mr. T was a mere novelty figure. For a time in the 1980s, he was a pop culture superstar. The actor born Lawrence Tureaud was featured in 1982’s Rocky III and co-starred in the popular TV program The A-Team, appearances he managed to turn into a high-profile career that included sitcom guest roles (including on Silver Spoons and Diff’rent Strokes), a starring turn in the 1983 movie DC Cab, appearances at the White House alongside Nancy Reagan and, in the midst of it all, this Saturday morning cartoon. T stars as the owner of a gym where he helps train a team of gymnasts. The gymnasts, in turn, help Mr. T solve crimes, just like the mystery-solving gangs on Scooby-Doo and Mike Tyson Mysteries. Mister T is available to rent/buy on YouTube.
