The melodramatic bluster and winking violence of professional wrestling is cartoonish as it is. Hulk Hogan’s Rock ‘n’ Wrestling just put it in actual animated form. Created by the WWF (now WWE), the show featured then-superstar Hulk Hogan, but there were also numerous other wrestling heavyweights depicted. Hogan’s gang of “good guys” included Andre the Giant, Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka and Junkyard Dog, while Rowdy Roddy Piper headed up the “heels,” a group that also featured The Iron Sheik, Mr. Fuji, The Fabulous Moolah and more. There were some live-action segments on the show, but the voices in the cartoon were not done by the actual wrestlers themselves. The cartoon’s theme song was “Hulk Hogan’s Theme,” which was also the wrestler’s ring entrance music before it was famously replaced by Rick Derringer’s “Real American.”
