2. Garbage Pail Kids
Maybe not “technically” a toy, Garbage Pail Kids trading card stickers were introduced by Topps in 1985. Featuring grotesque and often gory characters like Dead Ted, Diaper Dan, Nervous Neil and Slobby Robbie, the Garbage Pail Kids were designed to make fun of the popular Cabbage Patch Kids dolls of the 1980s.
Garbage Pail Kids were conceived by Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Art Spiegelman, who worked as a consultant for Topps.

You may remember getting two identical characters with different names. That’s because Topps produced 2 versions of each character with the same artwork, but different names. As Garbage Pail Kids gained popularity, many schools banned them saying that they were a distraction.
Garbage Pail Kids eventually got their own (awful) movie in 1987. This movie is widely considered one of the worst movies of all time – and has a whopping 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. Check out this movie trailer and you’ll understand why!
