Soul legend Marvin Gaye broke through in the 1960s with hits like “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” and duets like “It Takes Two” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” Gaye’s career exploded in the late ’60s thanks to smashes like “Heard It Through the Grapevine,” which led into his landmark 1970 album, What’s Going On. In 1984, Gaye go into a fight with his father, who shot him in the heart and killed him a day before his 45th birthday.
